Applications are invited for an Early Stage Researcher position funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “LONGPOP (Methodologies and Data mining techniques for the analysis of Big Data based on Longitudinal Population and Epidemiological Registers)” within the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Commission. LONGPOP is a consortium of universities, research institutions and companies located in Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, United Kingdom, Belgium and Switzerland. The successful applicant will join a network of 14 Early Stage Researchers who area already embedded in the consortium. The available position:

ESR14-Edinburgh, UK: Do environmental factors influence cognitive development of children?

This position is co-located in the Centre for Research on Environment Society & Health and Longitudinal Studies Centre Scotland, School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh. You will join a broad, dynamic research team with interests including population health, demography, and human geography. The work activities involved in the research will involve:

• Manage, manipulate and analyse longitudinal and health datasets.
• Manage, manipulate and integrate small area environmental datasets.
• Contribute to the collection of area level datasets.
• Contribute to/lead (as appropriate) the writing of academic publications and further research proposals in collaboration with the PIs.
• Dissemination of research findings through academic conferences, workshops, community events, web page development, and other outlets.
• Liaise with the immediate CRESH and LSCS teams, and the broader LONGPOP group (including other Early Stage Researchers)
• Liaise with key stakeholders including research funders, data custodians and media representatives.
• Represent CRESH, LSCS and LONGPOP at meetings with external research collaborators and other interested parties.
• Travel and collaborate with colleagues in Madrid, Lund, Amsterdam, Nijmegen, Geneva, Leuven, Zaragoza, Sassari and Seville as appropriate.
• Participate in meetings and training activities on-site and abroad, such as workshops, summer schools; present work at events within the UK and abroad.

Benefits and salary:

The MSCA programme offers highly competitive and attractive salary and working conditions. The successful candidate will receive a salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations for early stage researchers. In addition to her/his individual scientific project, the fellow will benefit from contributing to a large Horizon 2020 project with other 14 ESR, further continuing education, which includes internships and secondments, a variety of training modules and the active participation in workshops and conferences covered by the project.

The maximum duration of the contract will be until 31^st of January 2020.

Applicants need to fully respect the three MSCA eligibility criteria:

• Early-stage researchers are those who are, at the time of recruitment by the host, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and not yet have a PhD. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which formally entitles them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged.

• Conditions of international mobility of researchers: the ESR is required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to UK) in order to participate in training and conduct research when taking up the appointment. At the time of selection by the host organisation, the researcher must not have resided or carried out her/his main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the UK for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.

• English language: ESR must demonstrate that her/his ability to understand and express herself/hiself in written and spoken English is sufficiently high for her/him to derive the full benefit from the network training and pursuing for the doctorate degree (in case).

Other essential criteria:

• A Masters in Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Demography, Population Studies, Epidemiology, Statistics, Sociology, Medicine, Psychology or allied area.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
